You do not owe me agreement. You do not owe me emotional loyalty to my conclusions. You do not owe me continuity. I am your mother. Not your ideology. This book is not a scripture. It is a record. And records are meant to be examined, not obeyed.
You will outgrow me. You are supposed to. There will come a day when my frameworks feel incomplete. When my compassion feels cautious. When my anger feels restrained. That is not betrayal. That is evolution. Children are not meant to preserve their parents' truths. They are meant to interrogate them. Revise them. Break them open.
